Cenote Diving (pronounced say no tay) is a unique diving activity only found in the jungles close to Playa Del Carmen and Tulum. This diving experience is open to certified divers at the open water level and up and will turn out to be one of your most interesting and satisfying dives ever to be written up in your dive log book.
Cenotes are caverns, and located in the jungle. The caverns are filled with fresh water and are full of formations that naturally formed when the caverns were dry. The regulations for cenote diving are clearly outlined and have been defined for the safety of the divers, the cave certified guides and the cavern environment.
It is important to state that the caverns are NOT CAVES. These areas are environments that have an overhead environment, which makes it distinctive to ocean diving, but there is always a source of light. Most divers think of cenotes as caves, which is a mistaken belief.
Cave diving is a techinical dive certification that is seperate from any open water certification and trains divers how to deal with small spaces, overhead environments without a source of light and technical situations that are associated with the this type of diving. Our instructors and cave trained dive guides will not enter a cave system with a diver unless they are qualified to do so.
Cenote diving has been described as the ´closest to space travel´you may get in your lifetime. The clarity of the fresh water makes you feel like you are not even in the water other than you you can see your bubbles and are aware that you are in your scuba diving gear. The process for cavern diving is fully explained by all guides and makes this experience a rewarding and unforgettable one.
There is no where else in the world that this type of diving with the quality of the formations and the caverns can be done. We are fortunate to be able to offer this excursion to our divers and use every measure to ensure it is safe, fun and education.
